Metaverse Identity<\/a>: Defining the Self in a Blended Realityand <a href=\"https:\/\/www3.weforum.org\/docs\/WEF_Navigating_the_Industrial_Metaverse_A_Blueprint_2024.pdf\">Navigating the Industrial Metaverse<\/a>: A Blueprint for Future Innovations.<\/p>\n\n<p>In the EU, the European Commission\u2019s Joint Research Centre published its <a href=\"https:\/\/publications.jrc.ec.europa.eu\/repository\/handle\/JRC137123\">second report on Shaping the Next Generation of Virtual Worlds<\/a>. It summarises a conference that shedded light on the role of anticipatory research, the need for a common European approach, and EU actions to support business. <a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/commission\/presscorner\/detail\/en\/IP_24_85\">The Commission also closed its consultation<\/a> on competition in virtual worlds. The International Association for Trusted Blockchain Applications published <a href=\"https:\/\/inatba.org\/policy\/inatba-submits-a-reply-to-the-competition-in-virtual-worlds-and-generative-ai-calls-for-contribution\/\">their response to the consultation <\/a>(and other organisations may follow).<\/p>\n\n<p>Elsewhere, the UK government published a report, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/ip-and-metaverses-an-externally-commissioned-research-report\/ip-and-metaverses-an-externally-commissioned-research-report\">IP and Metaverse(s)<\/a>, which outlines existing IP issues that affect \u2018proto-Metaverses\u2019 and issues that may affect future metaverses and analyses possible approaches to address these issues. Intellectual property was central to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.europarl.europa.eu\/doceo\/document\/TA-9-2024-0029_EN.html\">EU\u2019s Legal Affairs Committee report on virtual worlds<\/a>, co-led by Axel Voss, which MEPs voted through in January 2024.<br\/><\/p>\n\n<p>This policy update comes from our partner Metaverse EU (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.metaversepolicy.eu\/\">metaversepolicy.eu<\/a>), a Brussels-based policy hub fostering knowledge and understanding of the metaverse and its evolving regulatory framework.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This month&#8217;s big news was the publishing of two reports by the World Economic Forum.
