AI and XR in social institutions – opportunities in the area of conflict between innovation and data protection

Strengthen decision quality through data intelligence and immersive training

Professionals in social institutions are faced with sensitive decision-making situations on a daily basis: Child endangerment, imminent need for care, crises in residential groups. There is a wealth of data available – case documentation, health data, progress reports – but it has hardly been used systematically to date.

An example of how two technologies can be combined to support skilled workers could look like this:

  • Artificial intelligence analyzes existing data, recognizes patterns and provides risk assessments to assist in decision-making.
  • Extended Reality creates realistic training environments in which critical situations can be practiced and AI-supported feedback can be used.

In this way, risks can be identified at an early stage, confidence in action strengthened and prevention effectively anchored.

This is precisely where the central question arises: Under what data protection conditions may AI systems be developed and used in social institutions?

Answers to these questions can be found in the new technical paper from the Metaverse Europe Foundation:
👉 Data protection framework for the development and use of AI systems in social institutions

The article highlights the legal guard rails that are crucial for concepts such as AI-supported situation assessment and XR training.
