Review of the education metaverse kick-off on 30.10.24
The Launch of the Educational Metaverse
On 30 October 2024, the new educational metaverse initiative of the Metaverse Europe Foundation was launched at the gameslab of Humboldt University in Berlin. The initiative aims to sustainably integrate immersive technologies and artificial intelligence in the education sector in order to create personalised and inclusive learning spaces and thus promote equal digital opportunities.
The fascination of VR: live demonstrations and new learning worlds
The event kicked off with fascinating live demonstrations that impressively showed how virtual reality (VR) can be used in a school context. These demos offered a glimpse of how VR gives teachers and learners access to completely new learning worlds – from realistic simulations of historical events to interactive scientific experiments. The use of VR enables teachers to customise lessons and sustainably promote the interest and motivation of learners.
Workshop: Goals, requirements and milestones of the initiative
The presentations were followed by a joint workshop in which the long-term goals of the education metaverse initiative were discussed. The participants talked about the requirements for successful realisation and important milestones on the way to broad implementation. A central concern of the initiative is to ensure the highest ethical and data protection standards in order to strengthen the safety and trust of learners and teachers.
Practical applications: Transferred from business to education
Another core objective of the education metaverse initiative is to adapt successful models from industry for the education sector. Industry has shown that immersive technologies have great potential to impart knowledge in a more sustainable and comprehensible way. These proven approaches are now to be anchored in schools, vocational schools and child and youth welfare centres in order to promote the education and development of young people.

A look into the future: education in the digital age
The educational metaverse initiative marks an important step towards a future-orientated educational landscape. Here, immersive technologies such as virtual reality and artificial intelligence are to be established not just as a supplement, but as an integral part of teaching in schools, vocational schools and child and youth welfare centres. The long-term goal is to build a bridge between modern technologies and traditional education and thus sustainably improve the opportunities and possibilities for all learners.
